GPWS provides low-volume callouts or aural alerts to assist the flight crew with situational awareness and to advise the flight crew of the aircraft’s approximate height above the ground.

GPWS provides voice callouts or aural alerts to assist the flight crew with situational awareness and to advise the flight crew of the aircraft’s approximate height above the ground.

Bank Angle Callouts

Callout Description
BANK ANGLE,
BANK ANGLE sound clip

Voice callout occurs when airplane roll angle reaches:

  • 35 degrees
  • 40 degress
  • 45 degrees

Note: Callout is reset when roll angle decreases below 30 degrees.

Altitude Callouts

Callout Description
TWENTY FIVE HUNDRED Airplane is at 2,500 ft AGL
ONE THOUSAND Airplane is at 1,000 ft AGL
Callout Description
FIVE HUNDRED

Airplane is at 500 feet AGL and on a non-precision approach or one of the following applies:

  • glideslope deviation exceeds 2 dots or no glideslope signal
  • localizer deviation exceeds 2 dots or no localizer signal
  • backcourse approach detected
  • glideslope alerting is inhibited with the G/S INHIB switch
Callout Description
FOUR HUNDRED Airplane is at 400 feet AGL
THREE HUNDRED Airplane is at 300 feet AGL
TWO HUNDRED Airplane is at 200 feet AGL
ONE HUNDRED Airplane is at 100 feet AGL
FIFTY Airplane is at 50 feet AGL
FORTY Airplane is at 40 feet AGL
THIRTY Airplane is at 30 feet AGL
TWENTY Airplane is at 20 feet AGL
TEN Airplane is at 10 feet AGL

APPROACHING MINIMUMS Airplane reaches 100 feet prior to the DH set in the captainís Decision Height Reference Window.

Callout Description
Pulsed tone

An aural alert (pulsed tone):

  • activates as the airplane passes through DH plus 50 feet
  • continues with increasing repetition as the airplane decends to DH
  • automatically deactivated when the airplane decends below DH or climbs above DH plus 50 feet

Note: The alert is enabled as the airplane descends from DH plus 75 feet to DH plus 50 feet. It can be enabled again by climbing above DH plus 75 feet and then descending through DH plus 50 feet.
